01 — Key Units

Not all keys are equal

Keys are measured in units (U). A standard letter key is 1U. Modifiers and spacebar are wider — every KWAM set covers every size.

1U
Standard alphanumeric keys — letters, numbers.
1.25–2.25U
Modifiers: Tab, Caps Lock, Shift, Enter, Backspace.
6.25U
Spacebar. Compatible with the vast majority of boards.

02 — The Shape

How a key sits and feels

A mechanical keycap profile refers to the specific shape, height, and contour of keycaps, determining how they feel, sound, and look.

OEM
The most common prebuilt profile. Sculpted, medium height, familiar and balanced.
Cherry
A little lower than OEM. Sculpted, comfortable, and a favorite in custom keyboards.
SA
Tall, sculpted, and rounded. Retro look with a deep, full sound.

03 — The Key

Inside every key

A mechanical switch lives under each keycap. Press down — spring pushes back, metal contacts close, signal fires. How it feels is your call.

Linear
Smooth from top to bottom. No bump, no click. Fast.
Tactile
A physical bump at actuation. You feel the exact moment.
Clicky
Tactile bump plus an audible click. Loud and satisfying.
